Black A Tor Copse, Dartmoor

Black A Tor Copse, Dartmoor

Black A Tor Copse, accessible via Okehamptons’ Meldon resevoir, this piece of ancient woodland is home to lichens and mosses previously thought to be extinct.

I walked for miles to find you,
That January day,
Hidden in the valley you stood,
Waiting for me in your silence.
Your branches, knowledge-gnarled and twisted,
What have you seen, here all alone,
Centuries must have passed like clouds overhead.
A mist came down:
Suddenly you beckon me in
The mossy boulders of you fade and blur….
May you stand forever quiet and watchful.
